A long corporate history with a lot of challenges

We look back on 25 years of experience in all areas of aviation security.

During this time there have been a number of changes that have changed our industry and our company. Below you will find a small excerpt of the main milestones.

1992

Vienna International Airport Security Services Ges.m.b.H. was founded.
The law on aviation security (LSG) was published.

1994

Vienna International Airport Security Services Ges.m.b.H. was commissioned by BM.I to provide an air passenger control service. In the years prior to 1994 passenger control was carried out by the police.

1997

VIAS established the Special Assistance Team, to facilitate transport at Vienna Airport for passengers with reduced mobility.

2001

The World Trade Center in New York City was attacked on 11 September and new laws were passed in respect of air travel security for all EU states as a result.

The GET-Service G.m.b.H. was founded as a 100% subsidiary company of VIAS.

2002

Establishment of our own explosives dog unit for special controls.

The EU publishes EU Regulation 2320/2002 with major changes for aviation safety.

2003

Implementation of the 100% control of checked-in baggage as required by EU Regulation 2320/2002.

2004

Start of surveillance of access to the aircraft.

Publication of EU Regulation 68/2004, in which prohibited objects, that may not be taken onto an aircraft were defined.

2006

January 1st, 2006: Start of 100% control of the staff working at the airport.

Since November 1st, 2006, for safety reasons, passengers are no longer permitted to take unlimited quantities of liquids into the cabin of an aircraft.

2010

Implementation of the legal basis from EU Regulation 300/2008 and 185/2010.

2012

Opening of Terminal 3 and the North Pier, as well as the largest central security control, located at the Vienna International Airport.

2014

Implementation of the EU Regulation governing liquids. This made things easier for all passengers.

2015

Implementation of the new resolution of the national law on aviation security. It requires the introduction of comprehensive controls for traces of explosives.

2017

New members at MIKO/HBS

One for all, all for one! Our young dogs are about to save the world.

Training changes for the Security Agents 

Itīs possible for us, to divide the 6-week basic training to become a Security Agent into 2 modules.
Furthermore, we can already carry out this training as an employee!
